Sharks: Stewardship and Solutions
Sharks face growing pressure from overfishing, habitat loss, and negative perceptions that shape conservation policy. Dr Sara Andreotti brings a multidisciplinary approach—combining science, technology, and public engagement - to impact and improve shark conservation outcomes, highlighting innovations in research, non-lethal mitigation tools, and sustainable tourism, showing how integrated solutions can support both shark populations and healthier marine ecosystems.
Dr Sara Andreotti is a marine biologist and lecturer at Stellenbosch University specialising in shark ecology and conservation. Her research has contributed to national assessments of white shark populations in South Africa. She is co-founder of the SharkWise internship programme and SharkSafe Barrier technology and serves on several conservation and research organisations focused on protecting sharks and promoting coexistence with people.
